Wolf Wieland, Professor of the Urology Department, Regensburg University, told the audience about the first in Russia joint surgery with a group of doctors at BSMU Clinic using stem cells derived from adipose tissue of the patient to restore the functions of the bladder.
They separated stem cells out of patient’s adipose tissue by centrifugation to restore the function of the sphincter of the bladder. Before, recovery after surgery on such sensitive issues took several weeks, now according to the method of Professor Wieland the whole procedure lasts no more than an hour and next day the patient can go home.
Wolf Wieland thanked the University and personally Valentin Pavlov, the Director of BSMU, a correspondent member of RAS, for the long-term cooperation, exchange of experience and introduction of new technologies between Regensburg University and BSMU.
