In 2005, he was elected an academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Professor S. V. Chuikin successfully worked in the field of science, education and healthcare as a member of the Scientific Expert Council under the Chairman of the Federation Council of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (2008-2012), as well as a member of the Council under the President of the Republic of Bashkortostan (2011-2015). In 2011, he was awarded the honorary title — founder of the scientific school — "Rehabilitation of children with congenital pathology of the maxillofacial region", in 2015 - he became the first laureate in Russia of the prestigious international humanitarian Award ICPF (World Foundation Cleft Lip and Palate), in 2020 — elected a Full member of the European Association of Cranio-Maxillofacial surgeons. He has been working at BSMU since 1979, after completing postgraduate studies and defending his dissertation since 1983. He worked at the Department of Surgical Dentistry. Since 1991, he has been working as the head of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics.

From 1995 to 2018, he worked as Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry of the Bashkir State Medical University of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.In 1992, for the first time in Russia, he organized and headed the Association of Pediatric Dentists. In 1996 he was elected President of the Association of Dentists of the Republic of Bashkortostan, and in 2003 — President of the Association of Dental Education. He was elected a member of the Board of the Dental Association of Russia.

Scientific activity His scientific activity is devoted to the development of new methods of treatment of inflammatory diseases in dentistry and maxillofacial surgery, as well as neoplasms and congenital malformations of the maxillofacial region. Chuikin — both established "pathogenetic mechanisms of the influence of purulent-inflammatory processes of maxillofacial localization on the central nervous system" and developed methods of drug protection of the brain from them. He developed new effective surgical methods of treatment, before and after surgical rehabilitation, the concept of histo-hematic barriers in the pathogenesis and treatment of dental diseases.

He discovered new mechanisms of pathogenesis, developed methods of forecasting, rehabilitation and prevention of congenital malformations of the maxillofacial region in children. Part of his scientific and dissertation work was carried out by him in the field of therapeutic, orthopedic dentistry and orthodontics. He is a member of: Editorial Boards of 5 scientific journals included in the VAC and Scopus, Deputy Chairman of the Doctoral Dissertation Council at the FBGOU in the BSMU of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. He is the author of over 1300 scientific papers; more than 50 monographs, 35 inventions, three Russian textbooks — National Manuals on Dentistry and Maxillofacial surgery. The Hirsch Index is 30.
