In 1932, a physical training course was organized as part of the military department, in 1948 there was a division into the military department and the Department of Physical Education, physical therapy and medical control. The team was consistently headed by: Associate Professor E.P. Voloskov, doctor E.P.Yakovleva, associate Professor I.F. Prusakov, Ph.D. Associate Professor G.V. Kovanov, Ph.D. Associate Professor S.N.Kolpikov, Ph.D. E.A. Molodtsov, Z.H. Musin currently heads the department Ph.D. Associate Professor Gainullin R.A.

 The Department of Physical Culture specializes in organizing and conducting recreational, physical culture, mass and sports work among students and teaching staff of BSMU.

 The head of the Department of Physical Culture is associate professor, Candidate of Biological Sciences Gainullin Ruslan Anvarovich.

 Currently, the department employs: 7 associate professors, 11 senior teachers, 6 teachers.

 By subordination, the department belongs to the Faculty of Pharmacy.

 HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

 By the resolution of the Council of People's Commissars of the RSFSR of 25.03.1932, a medical institute is opened in Ufa.

 On April 10, 1933, a course of military and physical education disciplines was created at the Institute, R.I. Safarov was appointed head.

 The name of the Department of Military and Physical Education disciplines is changed several more times. Since July 21, 1942, it has been called the Department of Military Sanitary and Physical Training, where the course of physical training is still maintained. Since October 11, 1943, there has been a division into departments of military sanitary and combined arms training, but on October 28, 1944, these departments were merged again into a single department of military medical training.

 By Order No. 97 of 30.06.1948, a course of physical education and physical therapy is allocated from the Department of Military medical training, the head of the part-time, acting head is appointed the head of the military medical training of the Guard, Colonel M.B. Shanshein, and the senior teacher is B.K. Lemanov.

 Since October 1, 1949, a doctor E.P. Voloskov has been appointed head of the course, who becomes the first head of the Department of Physical Education and Medical Culture and heads it until August 7, 1952.

 From August 27, 1952 to September 30, 1958, the department was headed by senior lecturer E.P. Yakovleva.

 From October 1, 1958 to September 8, 1962, the department was headed by Associate Professor, Ph.D. I.F. Prusakov.

 From September 24, 1962 to 1984, G.V. Kovanov, a graduate of the Bashkir Medical Institute in 1952, associate professor, Candidate of Medical Sciences, worked as the head of the Department of Physical Education, Medical Supervision and Physical Therapy.

 Associate Professor S.N. Kolpikov headed the department from 1984 to 1985.

 From 1986 to 1997, the department was headed by PhD, Associate Professor, Master of Sports of the USSR in Greco-Roman wrestling E.A. Molodtsov.

 From 1998 to 2012, the department was headed by a graduate of BGMI, associate professor, Ph.D. Z.H. Musin.

 Professor R.S. Nizamutdinova served as the head of the department in 2008.

 And from 2012 to the present, the department is headed by PhD, Associate Professor R.A. Gainullin, a graduate of the Chelyabinsk Academy of Physical Culture.

 In 2019, the BSMU kickboxing team became the champion of the Universiade of Universities of the Republic of Belarus for the first time in its history. Comfortable conditions have been created in the Pulse SOL. On the basis of the camp, mass sports and cultural events are held throughout the year. Annual enrollment is more than 1000 students.

 Today, the Department of Physical Culture is located in USC BSMU No. 10, which was opened in 2008. In the building of 1622.8 square meters there is a game room, a gym, a boxing hall, a fitness center, a ski base, a shooting range, a darts club. The academic building is considered one of the most modern and beautiful sports facilities in Ufa. Also, training sessions are held in the educational and sports complex on Repin Street and in gyms located in dormitories No. 1, No. 3, No. 4.

 Over the past 5 years, more than 250 scientific publications have been published in journals and collections published as a result of scientific and practical conferences, forums and round tables. In the piggy bank of the department there are also articles published in the journals included in the list of the Higher Attestation Commission, MNBD WOS, SCOPUS. At the department, the research work of students is implemented through a scientific circle. It employs 60 students of different courses and faculties. The circle of the department is an annual prize-winner of the exhibition of scientific circles of the university.

The Department of Physical Culture regularly initiates and organizes master classes with international participation. In 2018, Professor from the USA Selina Le May-Klippel conducted a master class on the topic "Methods of manual therapy and chiropractic" was held at USC BSMU No. 10. A master class on the topic "Selected methods of neurorehabilitation for patients with diseases of the nervous system" was held on September 21, 2019 at the Pulse SOL.  The Department of Physical Culture plays a huge role in the educational work of the university. At the initiative of Ruslan Anvarovich, many competitions aimed at educating students are held at the university during the academic year. In 2014, the First Kickboxing World Championship among students was held on the basis of BSMU. Since 2017, our university has been the initiator and organizer of the traditional All-Russian kickboxing tournament among students of medical and pharmaceutical universities of the Russian Federation. The Department of Physical Culture revived the tradition of performing the TRP complex. One of the first to complete the complex was a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Rector of BSMU Valentin Pavlov. Every year, 500 students and faculty of the university participate in the implementation of the complex.

 The importance of the Department of Physical Culture in the educational work of BSMU is also emphasized by the fact that in four faculties (pediatrics, medicine, Dentistry, Dean's office for work with foreign students), senior teachers of the department have been appointed as deputy deans for educational work.

 At BSMU, great attention is paid to improving health and attracting foreign students to sports. Foreign students have all the necessary conditions for sports. They visit the fitness centers of the university, have fun and spend time usefully in the sports and recreation camp "Pulse", defend the honor of their faculty at intra-university competitions. Foreign students successfully defend the honor of the university at republican and All-Russian competitions.

 The Department of Physical Culture participates in the organization and holding of events "Cardiocross", volleyball match "Nephro-league" under the motto "Transplantation - I am FOR!". The department is annually involved in the organization and holding of the traditional Republican mini-football tournament among medical workers, dedicated to the memory of Professor Safin Irek Akhmetovich, and the Republican mini-football tournament among medical workers 35+ is also a tradition. It has become a good tradition to hold a republican individual and team ski racing competition among graduates, students, teachers of Bashkir State Medical University, secondary medical and pharmaceutical workers, for prizes in memory of F.F. Kurgaev. More than 450 participants from 56 teams take part in the competitions every year. Also, an open table tennis tournament is held annually for the prizes of Professor D.A. Enikeev among graduates, teachers of medical and pharmaceutical universities of Russia.

 The department employs highly qualified teaching staff. A great contribution to the development of the department was made by associate professors - Honored Worker of Physical Culture of the Republic of Bashkortostan Nikolai Andreevich Morozov, who worked for 47 years and "excellent student of physical culture of the Republic of Bashkortostan" Yuri Vladimirovich Yarkin, in September 2023 Yarkin Yu.V. experience celebrated a double anniversary, he turned 75 years old and 50 years of experience at the department. In July 2023, he was awarded the Badge of Honor "For his contribution to the development of sports in the Republic of Bashkortostan".

 In 2023, the teaching staff of the department underwent advanced training in the direction of "First aid to victims at work in the amount of 16 hours."

Currently, students of BSMU of all specialties are trained in the Federal State Educational Standard in elective disciplines: Professionally applied physical training / Sports and outdoor games / Cyclic sports, and the discipline "Physical Culture and Sports". Within the framework of these disciplines, work programs, educational and methodological developments, methodological recommendations for students and teachers were developed, the lecture program is designed for all courses of study (see the Educational Portal).

 The purpose of mastering the discipline is to form motivations and incentives for medical students to engage in physical culture and sports as a necessary link of general cultural value and general health tactics in professional activity.

 Tasks of the discipline:

 To strengthen the health of students, to increase and maintain at an optimal level physical and mental performance, psychomotor skills.

 To develop and improve physical qualities, supporting them throughout all years of study at the university.

 To develop students' values for the qualitative use of means and methods of physical culture as an integral component of a healthy lifestyle, a factor of general cultural development and mastery of the medical profession.

 To instill knowledge and teach practical skills of using non-traditional means of physical culture to strengthen and restore health.

 To teach various motor skills, combining with professionally applied physical training, methods of assessing the physical, functional, psycho-emotional and energy state of the body and methods of correction by means of physical culture.

 To teach self- and mutual control in group and individual classes by means of physical culture, self-control, preparation and conduct of morning gymnastics and industrial gymnastics complexes.

 To form the skills of compliance with the requirements of personal and public hygiene, a motivational and value attitude to the daily performance of the motor regime, to instill an interest in sports and a desire to give up bad habits.

 Classes are held in the gym, in the fitness center, in the boxing hall, in the park. Lenin, there is also a ski base.

 Practical classes are held in the following sections: gymnastics, athletics, ski training, sports games, swimming, fitness. Training on simulators, professionally applied physical training.

 The staff of the department timely undergo advanced training in their specialty and in pedagogy.
