Scientific work

The scientific direction of the Department of Biology - “Genetics of multifactorial diseases” - is aimed at searching for genetic markers (polymorphic variants) associated with diseases such as juvenile arthritis and congenital anomalies of the maxillofacial region. New methods are being introduced to assess the cytogenetic status of residents of disadvantaged ecological regions. As part of an agreement on scientific cooperation with the Institute of Biochemistry and Genetics of the UFIC RAS, employees of the Department of Biology are conducting scientific research aimed at searching for associations of polymorphic genetic variants with the severity and effectiveness of therapy for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, metabolic disorders and obesity. Results of joint research published in journals from the list of Higher Attestation Commission, Scopus and Web of Science. Under the leadership of Viktorova T.V. 2 doctoral and 25 master's theses were defended (during the reporting period - 2 master's theses), 2 master's and 2 doctoral dissertations were being completed.

Much attention at the department is paid to organizing the work of the youth scientific society. The best students of 1-4 years annually participate in the International Scientific Education Department at the Department of Biology, where they acquire skills in conducting scientific research, first scientific publications, hear reports from invited geneticists, and make their first reports at intra-university, All-Russian and International conferences.

The results of scientific research by department staff were published in 30 scientific papers, including 15 in articles in peer-reviewed journals indexed in international scientific databases (WoS, Scopus, PubMed).
