The Department of “Propaedeutics of Dental Diseases” was created on December 1, 2005 at the Bashkir State Medical University. At the department, students study the basics of medical deontology, general principles of diagnosis, semiotics of diseases of organs and tissues of the oral cavity, form the initial professional manual skills of a dentist in the main branches of dentistry - therapeutic, surgical, orthopedic, which contributes to the formation of a complete understanding of dentistry as a science in the student , development of clinical thinking, deontological approach to patients, development of basic manual skills when working on a phantom. The department trains clinical residents and conducts research work for graduate students.

The Department of “Propaedeutics and Physiotherapy of Dental Diseases” was transformed from the course on December 1, 2005. under the guidance of Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Albina Irekovna Bulgakova. The course of propaedeutic dentistry was organized in 2002. Associate Professor Elena Shamsinovna Mukhametshina at the Department of Orthopedic Dentistry. The department employs a highly professional team. The main objective of the department is to develop in students knowledge and practical skills in the field of general principles of diagnosis, semiotics, diseases of organs and tissues of the oral cavity, dental materials science, the formation of initial professional manual skills of a dentist, a holistic understanding of dentistry as a science, the development of clinical thinking, deontological approach to patients, development of basic manual skills when working on a phantom.

On the basis of the department, 1st and 2nd year students of the dental faculty are trained in the discipline “Propaedeutic Dentistry”, Introductory and Research Practice, 3rd year students of medical and preventive care and medical biochemistry in the discipline “Dentistry”, students of foreign faculty are trained in an intermediary language. At the department, classes are conducted in specially organized thematic classrooms, including phantom classrooms, equipped with the necessary equipment and video demonstration material on electronic media. An artistic modeling class has been organized to study the structural features of various groups of teeth and make models of teeth from various materials (soap, wax, plasticine). Video demonstration material is presented in the classrooms - posters, albums, stands, models and macroscopic preparations.

The phantom class for studying basic examination methods is equipped with two dental units and five simulators for practicing the skills of conducting an initial examination of a dental patient; the classes also have the necessary dental instruments and demonstration material (posters, stands, guidelines for practical and independent work). The department also has a training room for a dental laboratory, where students master the laboratory stages of manufacturing orthopedic structures. To get acquainted with the clinical stages of prosthetics, teachers made videos on the subject of the discipline and introduced them into the educational process.

Since 2008 Clinical residency training was organized in the following specialties: therapeutic dentistry, orthopedic dentistry, general dentistry. The first residents in orthopedic dentistry - dentists Shafeev Ildar Rinatovich and Shagiev Bayras Kadimovich, under the guidance of associate professor Valeev Ildar Vakilyevich, were trained at the clinical base of the department and mastered innovative technologies in orthopedic dentistry.

In 2008, the department took an honorable 8th place in the BSMU ranking. In 2010, the staff of the department received a diploma as a laureate of the All-Russian exhibition “Golden Fund of Russian Science”, the best educational and methodological publication “Propaedeutic Dentistry in Questions and Answers” ​​in the industry. In 2011 awarded the title “Golden Department of Russia” by the Academy of the Russian Academy of Economics. The teachers have awards - certificates of honor from the Belarusian State Medical University, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus, Excellence in Health Care of the Republic of Belarus, the Russian Federation and take part in the organization and work of dental conferences and congresses of the Republic of Belarus, the Russian Federation, and international ones. The staff of the department published 12 textbooks, one manual with the stamp of the Russian Federation Educational Institution, 70 educational and methodological recommendations for students.

The department actively conducts research work. Scientific research of the department is carried out in the field of development of new diagnostic methods and innovative treatment and preventive technologies in the treatment of dental diseases.

Research is being conducted to assess the influence of exogenous and endogenous risk factors on the incidence and development of inflammatory periodontal diseases, clinical and microbiological characteristics of periodontal tissues in individuals with healthy periodontium, patients with inflammatory periodontal diseases, as well as patients infected with a virus of the herpes family. Research is being conducted on the immune status of patients with diseases of the maxillofacial area. Based on the results of scientific research, 15 monographs, more than 400 articles were published, and 14 patents were received. The department operates a postgraduate course. Under the guidance of prof. The department has a student scientific circle, headed by E.S. Soldatova, students have repeatedly become prize-winners of the BSMU student scientific conference. Every year, for 8 years, the department has held the student Olympiad “Propaedeutic Dentistry” in 5 categories.

The department, together with the Dental Association of the Republic of Belarus and practical healthcare (chief dentist of the Republic of Belarus, candidate of medical sciences Rustam Mukhametyanovich Dyumeev) conducts training seminars and master classes for dentists, graduate students, clinical residents on the topics: “New methods of diagnosis and treatment of major dental diseases of the maxillofacial area", "Dental implantology". Since 2016 training was organized under the Additional professional program of professional retraining (advanced training) for dentists in the specialty “Therapeutic Dentistry” - 144 hours. Training within the framework of CME (continuing medical education) of 36 hours was introduced.

At the clinical bases of the Department of SP No. 4; 6; 9; Dental professorial clinic “SANODENT”, White Star Modern Dentistry Clinic, staff provide medical and advisory appointments. New technologies for the treatment and prevention of major dental diseases are being introduced: the use of the Cerec system, prosthetics on microimplants, and the use of modern restoration materials.
