The Department of Human Anatomy was organized one of the first at the foundation of the Bashkir Medical Institute in 1932. Over the past years, many wonderful scientists and health care organizers have worked at the department. One of the organizers of the institute is Vladimir Mikhailovich Romankevich.

During 1933 – 1937 years Rosa Izrailevna Polonskaja was the Chief of the Department. She did a lot to equip the Department with teaching materials: made biological preparations, founded an anatomical museum. With her, scientific research was started. In 1937, R.I. Polonskaya completed and submitted for defense a doctoral dissertation on the topic: "On the morphology of the prevertebral lymphatic duct", which she defended in 1938 at the II Leningrad State Medical Institute. The further fate of R.I. Polonskaya, unfortunately, is unknown.

For thirty years (1937 – 1967) Department of Anatomy was headed by Sabir Zakirovich Lukmanov.

In 1967-1993, the department was headed by Akhnaf Gabbasovich Gabbasov.

Since 1993, the department has been headed by Vasil Sharifyanovna Vagapova. After graduating with honors from the medical faculty of BSMU, she studied in graduate school at the Department of Human Anatomy, worked as an assistant, senior lecturer, associate professor and professor of the department. In 1989-2000, she combined her work at the department with the position of dean of the Pediatric Faculty of BSMU.

In 1971 Vagapova V.Sh. defended her PhD thesis on the topic: "Macrostructure and innervation of abdominal muscles", and in 1989 – her doctoral thesis on the topic: "Microcirculatory bed of the synovial membrane of the knee joint". Field of scientific research: structure, development, circulatory and lymphatic microcirculatory bed of various elements of joints. She formulated the regularities of the development of the synovial membrane of the knee joint; for the first time in the synovial membrane of the joints, devices for transudation and resorption of synovial fluid were discovered; a method of joint capsule plastic surgery after synovectomy is proposed; the concept of the inner shell of the joints is developed.

Professor V.S. Vagapova co–authored 2 monographs, published about 200 scientific papers; she is the co-author of 2 manuals, the author of 4 inventions and 4 rationalization proposals, co-editor of 3 collections of scientific papers.

Teaching of anatomy at the department is carried out on the basis of the Federal State Educational Standard for specialties and the work program of disciplines taught at the department. Thematic plans for lectures and practical classes are drawn up according to this program, and since the mid-80s, classes have been organized systematically. Lectures address problematic issues of human morphology, patterns of structure and development of organs and systems, as well as the human body as a whole.

The entire learning process at each faculty is reflected in the work programs of the discipline, which are updated and supplemented in accordance with the new generation of Federal State Educational Standards. Methodological guidelines for students and developments for teachers, manuals and manuals on various sections of anatomy created at the department make it easier for students to learn the subject and work independently, and also allow them to systematize and unify teaching and knowledge control.

Control of students ' knowledge of human anatomy is carried out both: current and final. The knowledge control corresponds to the final control in ten sections-modules: osteology, arthrosyndesmology, myology, etc. The final control of knowledge is carried out in exams after completing the entire course of human anatomy. Rating system for monitoring and evaluating students ' knowledge-encourages students to study the subject. The use of the rating system was reported at the meeting of the Coordinating Educational and Methodological Council for Anatomy and Histology of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation on 25.05.2006. Experience of using the point-rating system at the department is recommended by KUMSOM for use in the departments of human anatomy of other universities in the country.

Since 1994, for the first time in BSMU, the Department of Human Anatomy introduced a 3-stage exam: I - testing, II - on drugs (practical skills) and III - on tickets (interview).

The current control of knowledge in all 10 modules is also carried out in 3 stages: computer testing, taking medications (practical skills) and an interview.

Teachers of the department systematically improve their pedagogical knowledge.
