The department uses modern technical teaching aids (iPad class, computers, multimedia equipment, diagnostic instruments, sets of tables, etc.). There is a training operating room “Wetlab for ultrasound cataract surgery” (operating microscopes, phacoemulsifiers, facial models, sets of microsurgical instruments). A multimedia interactive teaching system has been created, and courses are conducted using distance learning.

The department traditionally provides a high level of teaching the discipline of the specialty “ophthalmology” to 4th year students of all faculties of the medical university (general medicine, pediatrics, medical and preventive care, dentistry). The discipline “ophthalmology” is taught in Russian and English.

There is a full range of educational and methodological documentation, including work programs for students of all specialties (general medicine, pediatrics, medical and preventive care, dentistry.

Modern technical teaching aids have been introduced into the educational process: educational and monitoring computer programs, educational videos, thematic information stands, digital presentations, and the Internet information system are used. The latest diagnostic and treatment equipment is used for training.

The student scientific society is active at the department; for many years in a row, young scientists have taken prizes at scientific conferences, both national and international.

The department's APEI course provides postgraduate training for ophthalmologists in traditional cycles of advanced training (144 hours and 36 hours) and primary retraining (504 hours), including in the CME system (144 hours and 36 hours) on the basis work programs of the specialty using updated educational and methodological complexes of the discipline.

Two-year residency training is carried out in accordance with the main professional educational program of postgraduate professional education in the specialty “ophthalmology” (residency) (Federal State Educational Standard for Higher Education in Residency in the specialty “Ophthalmology” No. 1102 of 08.26.2014).

In October 2003, under the leadership of the Head of the department, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor B.M. Aznabaev, for the first time in the regions of Russia, the Wetlab training operating room was opened to train ophthalmologists in modern microsurgical technologies with the thematic practical course “WETLAB on ultrasound cataract surgery”, allowing you to acquire the basic technical skills to perform phacoemulsification. Workplaces in this cycle are equipped with special ophthalmological tables with a set of microsurgical instruments, Takagi operating microscopes, video systems and cadaver eyes of animals. More than 500 doctors from near and far abroad countries were trained in this cycle. Duration of the course (full-time training) - 6 days (36 hours), cost of training - 16,700 rubles.

In 2011, for the first time at the department, a system of multimedia interactive training in ophthalmology was created and a distance education cycle “Issues of Ophthalmology” was conducted. 19 ophthalmologists from Rostov-on-Don and the Rostov region were trained. In 2014, the staff of the department conducted a remote on-site cycle of advanced training, including 48 ophthalmologists from Yakutia, whose training was carried out on a budgetary and extra-budgetary basis. Students noted the high level of presentation of the material using modern teaching tools. The

training included lectures in webinar mode (on-line) using presentations and video materials, live broadcasts from the operating clinical bases of the department.

As part of the implementation of the strategic leadership program “Priority 2030”, the University continues to work jointly with its international partner university – Samarkand State Medical University (Samarkand, Uzbekistan).

From 06.08.2022 to 06.14.2022 Associate Professor of the Department of Ophthalmology of Samarkand State Medical University, Ph.D. Dilfuza Zukhriddinovna Jalalova conducted practical classes according to the curriculum for 48 hours for 4th year students of BSMU.

The exchange of knowledge, pedagogical approaches and experience in ophthalmology between the Bashkir State Medical and Samarkand State Medical Universities within the framework of international cooperation was successful and productive.
