The educational and methodological activities of the department are aimed at improving the knowledge, skills and abilities of neurologists, neurosurgeons of the Republic of Bashkortostan and other regions of the Russian Federation on the basis of Additional professional programs. Residents, postgraduates in the specialty «Neurology» and students of the dental faculty of BSMU are trained in accordance with the Basic Educational Program of higher education. The department is equipped with modern technical equipment and the necessary educational and methodological material. During the pandemic of the new coronavirus infection COVID-19, the work of the department was brought into line with the requirements of quarantine measures and ensuring the continuity of the educational process using remote technologies on the platform of university programs and the Internet Microsoft Team, Zoom, etc. This contributed to the full implementation of the program of advanced training courses for doctors, residents, graduate students and the curriculum of students. The theoretical material was supported by on-line testing, analysis of clinical tasks and cases from the real practice of a neurologist. Presentations of independent works of students on topical issues of neurology. In addition, the students' participation in webinars and conferences, which were held jointly with leading specialists and specialized departments of the Russian Federation, including with international participation, contributed to the deepening of knowledge.

For the first time in the Russian Federation, within the National Project to improve the provision of specialized medical care according to the vascular program, as well as the improvement of analgesic therapy in general medical practice, new work programs were created at the department and doctors of various specialties were trained in the cycles «New technologies for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of stroke», «Pain syndromes in general medical practice».

For the first time in the Russian Federation since 2019, in order to deepen the knowledge of residents of various specialties on the issues of Stroke, the department has developed a working program of the discipline «Acute cerebral circulatory insufficiency», a variable part of the Main Educational Program for training highly qualified personnel – residency, including modern aspects of the clinic, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of stroke.

Within the framework of Continuing Medical Education (CME), 17 work programs have been developed on topical issues of neurology and in connection with the new coronavirus infection, the program «Neurological aspects of coronavirus infection - COVID-19». Together with the Department of Therapeutic Dentistry, a working program «Pain syndromes in Dentistry» was developed.

Residents and graduates of the department take an active part in Russian, intra-university scientific conferences of students, young scientists and specialists, taking prizes awarded with diplomas in various nominations.

According to the results of educational and methodological activities, the department regularly occupies leading positions among the IAPE departments and has the title of the best department of BSMU. Head of the Department Prof. Novikova L.B. and assoc. Akopian A.P. were recognized as the best head of the department and the best head teacher of the department of BSMU.
