The educational activities of the department are carried out in basic disciplines in several directions. The educational process is carried out on the basis of work programs, calendar-thematic, lesson plans developed by the department using a list of textbooks recommended by the program, as well as teaching aids, educational and methodological developments, methodological recommendations for students and teachers on all aspects of the languages studied, developed by teachers of the department.

Since 2013, the department has been running a special course “Medicine of the Future”, within which students study German and French on an elective basis.

The department is actively working with foreign students who study Latin using an intermediary language (English).

In 2016, a course “In-depth study of the English language” was organized for teachers teaching foreign students using an intermediary language (English).

In order to optimize the educational process, the department annually holds olympiads in Latin and English. Olympiad winners take part in regional and all-Russian Olympiads in these disciplines, annually taking prizes there.

Since 2014, the Online School of Foreign Languages "LINGVISTER" and the Center for Foreign Languages "EXPRESS" have been holding the All-Russian Internet Olympiad in English. At the First All-Russian Internet Olympiad in 2014, our university was represented by 19 people. A student of the Faculty of Medicine, Liliyana Askarova, became a finalist in this event. In 2015, 29 students took part in the first round of the Internet Olympiad.

In the fall of 2016, as part of the Third All-Russian Internet Olympiad, 10 students from our university tested their knowledge and skills (headed by Associate Professor G.Z. Batyrova.

From November 10, 2014 to April 6, 2015 on the basis of the Voronezh State Medical Academy named after. N.N. Burdenko hosted the II Olympiad with international participation in foreign languages “Medicine and languages: at the crossroads of cultures (MIC)”. The goal of the Olympiad is to popularize the study of foreign languages among students of medical universities in our country and abroad and to update the importance of foreign languages at all levels of professional medical education. Students of our university took part with great interest in the first distance stage, the task of which was to write an essay on a

given topic. The organizers of the Olympics especially noted the work of pediatric student Gabdullina Milyausha.

Teachers of the department annually take part in the work of the international Russian-American school-seminar for English language teachers, organized by the American-Bashkir Intercollege together with the US Embassy in the Russian Federation.

01.11.2015 to 25.04.2016 at Voronezh State Medical University named after. N.N. Burdenko held the III Olympiad in Foreign Languages “Medicine and Languages: at the Crossroads of Cultures (MIC)”, which was dedicated to the 205th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Russian surgeon and anatomist, naturalist and teacher, creator of the first atlas of topographic anatomy, founder of the Russian military field surgery, founder of the Russian school of anesthesia Nikolai Ivanovich Pirogov.

Students from our university took part in the first distance stage with great interest, the task of which was to write an essay on a given topic. The organizers of the Olympics especially noted the works of Aigul Saifieva, Gulnaz Gulimkhanova, and Rita Giniyatullina. The 2nd degree diploma was received by Margarita Rifovna Nuikina, senior teacher of the Department of Foreign Languages with a Latin course.

All employees undergo advanced training courses in their specialty and pedagogy/psychology in a timely manner.

04/05/2016 - On April 16, 2016, an Olympiad in English, German and Latin was held at the Department of Foreign Languages with a Latin course. More than 100 students of medical, pediatric, pharmaceutical and dental faculties took part in the Olympiad. The winners were awarded certificates of honor. The annual holding of Olympiads gives a good impetus to students in learning foreign languages and in the desire to become qualified specialists.

On March 18, 2017, first-year students of Bashkir State Medical University took part in the XX Interuniversity Olympiad in Translation “Golden Dictionary”, held at the Institute of Law of Bashkir State University. Students, undergraduates and graduate students from universities of the republic took part in it: BSAU, UUI of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, USPTU, BSMU, Bash State University.

The organizers set themselves the task of identifying and supporting talented students from educational institutions of the republic, testing students’ knowledge of a foreign language and expanding ways of interaction between educational institutions of higher professional education.

According to the results of the Olympiad, Iskander Bayburin, a first-year student at the Faculty of Medicine of the Belarusian State Medical University, took third place. All participants received certificates of honor, souvenirs and booklets.

From March 16 to April 16, 2017, teachers of the Department of Foreign Languages with a Latin course of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Belarusian State Medical University organized an intra-university Olympiad in English, German and Latin among first-year students of the medical, pediatric and pharmaceutical faculties. More than 100 students took part in the Olympiad.

During the Olympiad in English and German, the skills of verbal interaction with a partner, the degree of formation of social and linguistic competencies, as well as the level of formation of grammatical skills, vocabulary and the ability to use certain reading technologies were tested.

The Latin Olympiad was held in written form. The tasks offered to students consisted of two parts - terminological and linguocultural.

The winners were awarded certificates of honor.

April 13, 2017 at the Bashkir State Pedagogical University named after. M. Akmulla hosted the Republican Festival of German Song, held annually as part of the German Language Week in the Republic of Bashkortostan. In total, two musical groups from BSMU performed with the songs “Deutsche” (“Germans”) and “Hörst du den Wind?” (“Can you hear the wind?”). Preparations for the song festival were supervised by German language teachers in the course “Medicine of the Future” Yu.F. Kobyakov. and Kobyakova L.A. Students of the Bashkir State Medical University won an award for the song “Deutsche” in the form of a Diploma “Best Pronunciation”.

On December 16, 2017, a reading competition was held, dedicated to the 152nd anniversary of the birth of the English writer and poet R. Kipling, among students of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Education BSMU of the Ministry of Health of Russia. First-year students competed by reciting poems by R. Kipling. The jury evaluated their performances according to the following criteria: correct, clear sound pronunciation, expressiveness and performance skill, creation of an artistic image. Some numbers were remembered for their emotionality and insight, others for their creative approach. Thus, Garifullina D. (F-103A) figuratively presented the content of the selected work. As a result, the winner of the Reading Competition was Atalikova B. (F-101A), who lyrically performed the poem “Song of Wise Children”. Second place was taken by Kashfullina K. (F-102B), presenting a vivid

interpretation of the work “The Return”. Third place was shared by Ilyasova R. (F-101A), Ishmakova Z. (F-103B), Tupieva A. (F-103A).

From April 5 to April 11, 2018, the Republican Olympiad in foreign languages (English, French, German) was held at the Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Education "Bash State University" among students of non-linguistic specialties. More than 200 students took part in the Olympiad. The first qualifying round of the Olympiad was held in absentia in the format of the Internet Olympiad on the Bashkir State University distance education website. Assignments in English corresponded to the advanced level of foreign language proficiency (B2, C1), in German and French - to the average level of B1. The second full-time round was held on April 9-11 at Bashkir State University. Participants completed listening and oral communication tasks.

Bashkir State Medical University was represented by 47 students, 9 of whom made it to the second round.

All participants were awarded certificates of participation, and the winners were awarded diplomas and valuable prizes. In April 2018, the department held intra-university Olympiads in English, German, and Latin among first-year students of BSMU, in which more than 100 people took part. For the first time, the English Language Olympiad was held in a computer class using electronic educational

resources. The tasks for each stage of the Olympiads were compiled by the teachers of the department responsible for their conduct. Based on the results of the Olympiad, winners and prize-winners were determined and awarded.

On December 15, 2018, a presentation competition in English “Bashkortostan is my native land” was held, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Republic of Bashkortostan. First-year students of BSMU spoke about the history, geography, culture and nature of Bashkortostan in a foreign language. The winners of the competition were: Murzakhanova K. and Khabibov M. (L-110B) with a story about the picturesque Karaidel region, as well as Yakupova K. (St-101B) with the presentation “Bashkir honey is a great gift of nature.” Several students took second place: Karimova Y., Buglo

On May 24-25, the Eurasian Congress of Urologists was held in Ufa at the Toratau Congress Hall.

Teachers of the department took part in this large-scale event.

The teaching staff acted as (accompanying) translators for foreign participants of the congress, and also attended various master classes and sections.

On April 1, 2021, the Department of Foreign Languages with a Latin language course of the Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Education BSMU held an online Olympiad in the academic discipline “Latin Language” among first-year foreign citizens of the Faculty of Medicine. The Olympiad was held on the Microsoft Teams platform.

The Olympiad included a qualifying stage and a main stage, in which various tasks on anatomical terminology were presented (lexico-grammatical tests, working with texts, recognizing medical terms by ear). In total, forty-four students took part in the Olympiad.

Based on the points received, the winners were determined:

Intra-University Olympiad in English

On April 20, 2021, on the basis of the Department of Foreign Languages with the Latin language course of BSMU, the full-time part of the intra-university Olympiad in English was held among first-year students. More than 50 people took part in the Olympiad.

The qualifying stage was carried out in the form of remote testing on the use of knowledge of English grammar, vocabulary, including medical terminology, as well as knowledge of the culture and geography of the countries of the language being studied. Everyone who scored at least 70% on the test was allowed to participate in the full-time stages of the Olympiad. The second stage consisted of assessing the students’ auditing skills, their knowledge of medical terms, and during the third stage, participants were offered topical questions for reasoning, where the expert commission took into account the correspondence of the statement to the topic of the question, the completeness and logic of reasoning and how fluent the participant is in speaking speech.

Intra-university Olympiad in Latin

On April 23, 2022, the Intra-University Olympiad in Latin was held at the Department of Foreign Languages with a Latin course at BSMU.

83 first-year students took part in the first stage of the Olympiad. 17 participants who demonstrated the best knowledge of Latin grammar and translation skills of medical terminology passed to the second stage.

I and II year students competed by reciting poems by William Shakespeare. II Intra-University Scientific and Practical Conference “Languages and Medicine”

On May 16, 2022, the II Intra-University Scientific and Practical Conference “Languages and Medicine” was held at the Department of Foreign Languages with a Latin language course at BSMU.

18 first and second year students took part in the Conference. The participants presented reports on current topics related to medical terminology, problems of understanding medical texts and the peculiarities of communication between specialists in the medical field, including in a foreign language. Based on the results of the presentations, 4 reports were singled out, which were distinguished by their novelty, creativity, breadth of research and meaningful presentation.

On April 29, 2023, on the basis of the Department of Foreign Languages with the Latin language course of BSMU, a full-time stage of the intra-university Olympiad

in Latin was held among students from among foreign citizens studying in an intermediary language (English).

114 first-year students of the University took part in the qualifying stage. This stage was an online test that included questions on anatomical and clinical terminology.

The second, face-to-face stage included written tasks on vocabulary and grammar of the Latin language, the ability to explain clinical terms and indicate doublets. Several questions were also presented on knowledge of the linguistic and cultural aspect of the discipline being studied.
